channelnewsasia.com - March 16, 2001 - The
Palm Vx has been named 2000's best Palm OS-based handheld by popular
Singapore computer hardware site Hardware Zone, while Compaq's
iPAQ H3630 was picked as best Pocket PC.
At the inaugural Hardware Zone Awards presentation
on Friday, Creative's NOMAD Jukebox took the title for most innovative
digital audio player, while Richfield Innovations' Marketplace
was named best shop in Sim Lim Square.
These were among the 29 technologies picked to recognise
the best computer hardware and consumer products on the market.
The awards also aim to promote excellence in hardware manufacturing,
design and quality of products in the computer industry.
In the chipset categories, AMD's Athlon took the
spot for best high-end performance CPU, while its Duron won best
low-end/budget CPU.
The winning products were first nominated by HardwareZone.com's
members. The nominated products were then judged on their performance,
features, price and reliability and were put through a round of
benchmark tests by Hardware Zone's in-house panel of judges.
Out of 127 unique IT products that were nominated,
28 were finally chosen. The 29th category -- Best Sim Lim Square
Shop -- was chosen solely by HardwareZone.com's members.
Hardware Zone also announced that besides providing
members with reviews on the latest hardware, it planned to launch
the company's first e-commerce initiative, HardwareAtrium, by
mid-2001.
HardwareAtrium will be a B2C platform retailing
the whole range of IT products from consumer level to high-end
servers.
